why did the newspaper advisor give the paper to principal Reynolds for review? Was this standard procedure?

Regarding the Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier case, it is standard procedure for the newspaper advisor to give the paper to Principal Reynolds for review.

While the students may feel that the paper being denied/removed is an infringement of speech, school officials have to right to censor school papers (within educated reason) because it is sponsored by the school.
