You are riding a personal watercraft at a steady speed toward a dock 3050 feet away. You travel at this speed for 55 seconds. You begin to slow down 300 feet from the dock. Write and solve an equation to find your cruising speed s in feet per second.

Answer: So, his cruising speed s = 50 feet per second .

Explanation:

Since we have given that

Total distance covered by a personal watercraft towards a dock = 3050 feet

Time taken to travel = 55 seconds

According to question, he began to slow down 300 feet from the dock , so, at this speed he traveled

3050-300=2750

Speed will be

Speed=\frac{\text{ Remaining distance }}{time}

(2750)/(55)=50

So, his cruising speed 's' = 50 feet per second .
