The function f(x) = 800(1.09)4x shows the growth due to interest that Jim earns on an investment. The steps to calculate an equivalent function are shown below: [Step 1] f(x) = 800(1.09)4x

[Step 2] f(x) = 800(1.094)x
[Step 3] f(x) = 800(1.4116)x
[Step 4] f(x) = (1129.27)x
Which of the following is the first incorrect step?
There is no mistake in the work.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4

Ok, make sure you put the powers correctly. I know what you mean but someone else may not. So it's step 2. This is because the 4 doesn't mean add a digit.

Answer:

Step 1

Explanation:

We are given that the function

f(x)=800(1.09)^4x shows the growth due to interest that Jim earns on an investment .

We are given that the steps to calculate an equivalent function .

We have to find the first incorrect step in calculation.

Step 1
f(x)=800(1.09)^4x

Step 2
f(x)=800(1.09*1.09* 1.09*1.09)x

Step 3
f(x)=800(1.4116)x

Step 4
f(x)=(1,129.28) x

In second step Jim makes an mistake because he did not solved power correctly. He takes power as 0.004 and add to base then he gets 1.094. It is incorrect step of Jim.

So, Jim makes first mistake in step 1.
