Three ways an atom can form bonds with another atom are...

Way 1. You could form an ionic bond by giving or even taking away electrons.

Way 2. Another way is to form a co-ordinate bond by unequally dividing or sharing each electron.

Way 3. You could form a covalent bond by equally sharing each electron.
