The so-called "Bracero Program," which was inaugurated in 1942, helped meet wartime labor shortages for industry (specifically for agriculture). Furthermore, it was believed that this agreement would be a way for Mexico to be involved in the Allied armed forces - those that were fighting against the Axis powers (Germany, Japan and Italy) during Second World War.
