Explanation:

2) First draw a rectangle around your figure.

Next, find the area of the rectangle you just made around your shape.

Then, you will see 2 small triangles that are inside of your rectangle but not part of your shape. You will use the triangle formula
A=(h_(b)b )/(2). Your anwser for the triangle in the top will be 1.5. Then the one in the bottom will be 6.

The last step for this is minus 1.5 and 6 from 40 (the total area of rectangle).

This will leave you with 32.5 units^2.

1) you do the same exact thing. You should get 48 as the area of the whole rectangle and 8 and 24 for the small traingles in the rectangle. When you subtract 8 and 24 from 48 you get 16 units^2.
