f(x) = x² - 9

Explanation:

given a function f(x) then f(x) + c translates f(x) vertically by c units

• If c > 0 then translate c units vertically up

• If c < 0 then translate c units vertically down

here f(x) is translated 9 units down, hence new function is

f(x) = x² - 9
