Explanation:

The finishing time of the runner is given as the function of tail-wind speed.

t = 0.0119 s² - 0.308 s - 0.0003

We have to find t, when s= 4 m/s

Substitute s = 4, in the above equation

t = 0.0119 (4²) - 0.308 (4) -0.0003 = 0.1904 - 1.232 - 0.003 = -1.0419

Rounding it to the nearest hundredth, we have,

t = -1.042

∴ t = -1.042, when s = 4 m/s.
