With its 3,700 kilometers or 2,300 miles, this navigation system is the longest in the world. The navigation system is a trade corridor that benefits Canada and the U.S. and upgrades the rail and highway system of Canada. This helps the economy of the people because it is safe, the cost is affordable and is a good way to transport agriculture products, materials, and such as cement, coal, steel, aluminum, sugar, salt, and petroleum. The St. Lawrence Seaway project was completed in 1959.

This is a highway system that runs through all the Canadas’s provinces and connects the Pacific coast to the Atlantic coast. This vast connection reduces the time of the travel and the economy of the region, helping the country trade with the U.S. and abroad.
The downside of the construction of the Seaway.
During the construction of the Seaway there were accidents. Many were people hurt. Another problem was that Plants and wildlife was affected by the work in the river zone, risking the environment.
Nowadays, the Seaway faces new challenges such as the decrease in traffic and the lack of adequate maintenance.
