In a survey of 2000 people, 1320 said they had a microwave. What percent of the people surveyed have a microwave?

Lets first set up a proportion:

(1320)/(2000) = (p)/(100)

We could simplify the proportion to make the process easier:

(33)/(50) = (p)/(100)

Now we must multiply, 33×100 and 50×p:

50p = 330

Divide both sides by 50:

p = 6.6

Times it by 100

about 66% of the people own microwaves

= 1320/2000 x 100%
= 0.66 x 100%
= 66%
