In 1917 several important events related to women suffrage took place:
- Women in NY voted for the first time
- There were demonstrations in front of the White House of women who claimed for their voting rights directly to the US President
- A woman from Montana was the first one to be elected for Congress. She accessed a seat in the House of Representatives.
- Detentions of women who protested for suffrage took place. These were released due to the preassure exercised by the public opinion.
