Answer:

The number of CD costs $ 14.00 are 3 and CD costs $ 12.00 are 6.

Explanation:

Let x be the number of CD costs $ 14.00 and y be the number of CD costs $ 12.00

Since, total CDs = 9

⇒ x + y = 9

⇒ x = 9 - y -------(1)

Also, total spending in both type of CD = $114.00,

⇒ 14x + 12y = 114

From equation (1),

14(9-y) + 12y = 114

126 - 14y + 12y = 114

126 -2y = 114

-2y = -12

y = 6

Again by equation (1),

x = 9 - 6 = 3

Hence, the number of $ 14.00 cost CD are 3 and $ 12.00 cost CD are 6.
