Answer: Rose paid $1,023.75 for the hat.

Explanation:

Hi, to answer this question we have to substitute c=975 and b =5/100 in the equation given.

t = c + cb

Where

t = total cost

c = price of the hat

b = sale tax percent (in decimal form, dividing the percentage by 100)

Replacing with the values given and solving for t:

t = 975 + (975 x [5/100])

t = 975 + (975 x 0.05)

t = 975+48.75

t= $1,023.75

To get the total, the equation would look like this

975 + 975(.05)

You might have been using just 5 or .5, which results in a very large and very incorrect number. To get your answer, times .05 by 975 and you should get 48.75!

This would be your equation now:
975 + 48.75

Now just add them together to get: 1023.75!

$1023.75 is your answer!
