First, we know that there are 5 poles. Next, we know that the equation
(n(n-1))/(2) represents the amount of strings needed if we have n number of poles. Therefore, we can plug 5 poles into n (as n represents the amount of poles) to get
(5(5-1))/(2) =
(5*4)/(2) = 10 as our answer.
