the point, M, that divides segment AB into a ratio of 3:1

A is at (-4, -2) and B is at (4, -10).

Apply section formula

((mx_2 + nx_1)/(m+n) , (my_2 + ny_1)/(m+n))

Here m,n is the ratio

m =3, n= 1

A is (-4,-2) that is (x1,y1)

B is at (4, -10) that is (x2,y2)

plug in all the values in the formula

((3(4) + 1(-4))/(3+1) ,(3(-10) + 1(-2))/(3+1))

((8)/(4) ,(-32)/(4))

(2, -8)

Point M is (2,-9)
