The Han Chinese,[29][30][31] Han people[32][33][34][35] or simply Han[36][34][35][37](UK: /hæn/;[38] US: /hɑːn/;[39] Mandarin pronunciation: [hân]) (Chinese: 漢人; pinyin: Hànrén; literally: "Han people";[40] or 漢族, pinyin: Hànzú, literally "Han ethnicity"[41] or "Han ethnic group"[42]) are an East Asianethnic group and nation.[43][44][45][46] They constitute the world's largest ethnic group, making up about 18% of the global population.[47][48] The estimated 1.3 billion Han Chinese are mostly concentrated in mainland China (about 92% of the total population)[2] and in Taiwan (about 95% of the population).[49][50] Han Chinese also makes up three quarters of the total population of Singapore.[51]
