1.) n= number
6n = 240

2.) To get rid of the 6 and isolate n simultaneously, divide 6 on both sides of the equal sign.

6n ÷ 6 = 240 ÷ 6

n = 40

3.) n = 40

let "a number" = x

6(x) = 240

Isolate the x. Note the equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other. Divide 6 from both sides

(6x)/6 = (240)/6

x = 240/6

x = 40

40 is your number
