How do you think religion originated (way back in the mists of time)? What

purposes does it serve in societies, both past and present? Do you think religion
is necessary?--in other words, could a society survive without it?

Answer:

Religions are a guide to ethical living, but sometimes, people twist it to fit their own agenda. I think religion originated because people needed something to believe in, and religion fills this role. Religion serve many roles ranging from how to live to what is right and wrong. I don't think we could have gotten where we we are right now without religion, religion served as a groundwork for many societies, and without it many would not know what to do with their lives. Point being, I don't think a society could thrive fully without a religion, but then China exists, so this is up for debate.
