The answer is D because first, the weight of the tree has nothing to do with anything since its roots go far below beyond the soil. second, the tree does absorb water from the soil but that doesn't cause the soil to stay because the soil needs to stay moist so that the tree can get its nutrients. lastly, trees do not take soil through their roots because if they did they would have nothing to root themselves in which allows them to grow. The obvious answer is D
