The Earth's crust is the outer layer of the Earth and is made of solid rock. It is also the thinnest layer. As well known, the crust makes up 1% of the Earth. The crust of the Earth is broken into pieces called plates.
The temperature ranges from 0 - 700 Celsius. The Earth's crust is often compared to an apples skin, this because of it's thickness compared to the other three layers. The average thickness is 6 - 70 km.
