Answer: D

We know that 820 = the sales tax of 6 percent

Now, we test all the answers to see the sales taxes of each.

A:

136.66 * 0.06 = 8.1996 = 819.96

B:

136.65 * 0.06 = 8.19900 = 819.90

C:

136.68 * 0.06 = 8.2008 = 820.08

D:

136.67 * 0.06 = 8.2002 = 820.02

The closest price was D, since it was only off by 2 cents.

Answer: Hello mate!

We know that Jon bought a Subaru wit a tax of 6%, where the tax was $820, and we want to know the price of the car.

Now we know that $820 is 6% of the total price of the car, then, if P is the price of the car, we got that:

6% of P = $820

using the decimal form of the percentage, we got:

0.06*P = $820

P = $820/0.06 = $13666.6

Now we want to round it to the nearest dollar, you can see that the first number after the decimal point is a 6, then we should round up (if the number is between 0 and 4 we round dow, if the number is between 5 and 9 we round up).

P = $13667

Then the correct answer is option D.
