I have an ordered pair which is (5,-4) and the y-intercept which is -2 how do i find the slope

Remark

So far what you know is that

y = mx - 2

Now all you need do is use the point to solve for m

y = - 4

x = 5 Substitute

- 4 = m(5) - 2 Add 2 to both sides

-4 + 2 = 5m - 2 + 2

- 2 = 5m Divide both sides by 5

-2 / 5 = 5/5 m

- 0.4 = m

Answer: y = - 0.4x - 2 or

Answer: y = - (2/5)x - 2
