How do you solve combining like terms

"First, combine the like terms on the left side of the equation. Notice that 9 cannot be combine with because they are not like terms. Then you solve any two-step equation. The next step is to isolate the term with the variable, , on one side of rhe equation

I'll show you an example:

6x + 4x - 8 -Combine like terms

10x - 8

As you can see, all I had to do is add the numbers that had the "x" beside them to combine the like terms.
