Caiden and Josh are practicing at a batting cage. Josh has hit nine more than one half the number of balls that Caiden has. If the sum of their hits is 123, how many balls has Josh hit?

(Please include work for this problem, I appreciate it greatly.)

With the combined number total of balls hit being 123. take the 9 more that Josh hit from the 123, then divide that answer by 2. 123 - 9 = 114, then 114 ÷ 2 = 57, then add the 9 more to the 57. 9 + 57 = 66.

I hope this helps.

Answer:

Josh has hit 47 balls.

Explanation:

Caiden and Josh are practicing at a batting cage.

Let Caiden's hits be 'x'

Josh has hit nine more than one half the number of balls that Caiden has.

Josh's hits would be =
(1)/(2)x+9 hits.

the sum of their hits is 123. So the equation will be

x+((1)/(2)x+9)=123

(3)/(2)x+9=123

(3)/(2)x=123-9

(3)/(2)x=114

x =
(2)/(3)* 114

x = 76

Caiden's hits = 76

Josh's hits =
(1)/(2)x+9 [put the value of x]

=
(76)/(2)+9

= 38 + 9

= 47 hits

Josh has hit 47 balls.
