What diseases killed many during the industrial revolution and how were they spread?

Cholera was rampant during the Industrial Revolution due to unsanitary living conditions, especially unclean water. Due to a chronic lack of hygiene, little to no knowledge of sanitation and no knowledge as to the cause of infection, diseases such as cholera, typhoid and typhus could be devastating.
