George makes a $1000 down payment for a car and then pays $325 per month. Elaine makes a $2500 down payment for a car and then pays $325 per month. Is there any number of months after which both George and Elaine will have paid the same total amount? Explain.

No. After any number of months, the total amount paid by both can't be the same.

Explanation:

The down payment made by George = 1000

The down payment made by Elaine = 2500

Difference = 2500 - 1000 = 1500

Monthly payment by George = 325

Monthly payment by Elaine = 325

Difference = 0

Total difference between the payment made by them = 1500 + 0 = 1500.

Since, this is the difference for every month, the total amount paid by both can never be the same.
