1. function notation is the way a function is written.

2.the use of function notation makes it clear which is the dependent variable and which is the independent variable in a functional relationship.

3.It means a formula, named f, has x as its input variable". It does not mean "multiply f and x''.

function notation is the way a function is written. It is meant to be a precise way of giving information about the function without a rather lengthy written explanation.
