How would the strength of an electromagnet be affected if its 1.5V battery is replaced by a 9V battery while using the same nail and coil?

1- the change would not affect the magnetic field
2- the magnetic field strength would decrease
3- the magnetic field strength would increase
4- The magnetic field would change direction more frequently

Answer:

The correct answer option is 3- the magnetic field strength would increase

Explanation:

An electromagnet is a soft metal core which is made into a magnet by passing the electric current through a coil surrounding it.

Unlike a permanent magnet, the strength of an electromagnet can be changed and there are a few factors that effect it.

Since the strength of an electromagnet is directly proportional to not only the number of coils around the solenoid but the current that is passed through it, so replacing a 1.5V battery by a 9V battery will increase its magnetic field strength.

Electromagnet is a type of magnet formed by passing electric current through a magnetic material such as iron. A wire is coiled around the magnetic material and electric current is passed through the wire. In electromagnet, electric energy is converted to magnetic energy. For this reason, the strength of an electromagnet depends on the number of coils of the wire and also on the strength of the electric current. The electromagnet loses all its magnetic properties when the current flow is switched off. For this reason, if a 1.5 V battery attached to an electromagnet is replaced by a 9 V battery then the strength of electric current will increase. As a result, the strength of the magnetic field increases.

(Answer) (3) the magnetic field strength would increase.
