How many x-intercepts does the graph of y=2x^2-8x+5 have?

It depends on the number of real roots of the polynomial.


\Delta=(-8)^2-4\cdot2\cdot5=64-40=24

The discriminat is greater than zero, so there are two roots, and therefore there are two x-intercepts.
