So far, a storm has traveled 35 miles in 1/2 hour. If it is currently 5:00 P.M. and the storm is 105 miles away from you, at what time will the storm reach you? Explain how you solved the problem.

The storm will reach you at 6:30 P.M

EXPLANATION

105 ÷ 35 = 3

3 x 1/2 hour = 1 1/2 hours

5:00pm + 1 1/2 hours = 6:30 P.M

Answer:

At 6:30 the storm will reach you.

Explanation:

Consider the provided information.

A storm has traveled 35 miles in 1/2 hour.

This can be written as:

35 miles = 1/2 hours

If it is currently 5:00 P.M. and the storm is 105 miles away from you, at what time will the storm reach you?

We can calculate the time take by storm if we multiply both side of the equation by 3.

Multiply both sides by 3.

35 × 3 miles = 1/2 × 3 hours

105 miles = 3/2 hours

or

105 miles =
1(1)/(2) hours

That means storm will take 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach you.

Currently its 5:00 P.M.

Therefore, 5:00+1:30=6:30

At 6:30 the storm will reach you.
