The formula of a slope:

m=(y_2-y_1)/(x_2-x_1)

We have the points (-1, -1), (x, 1) and the slope m = 2/7. Substitute:

(1-(-1))/(x-(-1))=(2)/(7)

(2)/(x+1)=(2)/(7) cross multiply

2(x+1)=(2)(7) use distributive property

2x+2=14 subtract 2 from both sides

2x=12 divide both sides by 2

x=6

Answer: x = 6

slope = m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

(y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1) = m

(-1 - 1)/(-1 - x) = 2/7

-2/(-1 - x) = 2/7

2/(x + 1) = 2/7

1/(x + 1) = 1/7

x + 1 = 7

x = 6

Answer: x = 6
