0.25 of the area of the land is 0.25 times the area of the land. You need to multiply 0.25 by 24.5 acres.

If you do it with pencil an paper, this is what it looks like.

24.5

x 0.25

-------------

1225

+ 490

------------

6125

Now you need to place the decimal point. 24.5 has one decimal place after the decimal point. 0.25 has 2 decimal places after the decimal point. 1 + 2 = 3. The answer must have 3 decimal places after the decimal point. Write 6125, and put your pencil tip right after the 5. Now count 3 places to the left, and place the decimal point between the 6 and the 1.

The answer is 6.125 acres.

so we know that the builder is going to use one fourth of the park and we know that he has a total of 24.5 acres

take your total of 24.5 and divide it by 25%

You do this by dividing by a fraction of 1/4, or a decimal of .25

24.5/.25=6.125
