Step-by-step explanation: While I'm sure there is an equation to solve this which I don't remember I used process of elimination to solve this, there are two right triangle and one of the triangles is sides a, 2, and b. Since B is across from the right angle, it is the hypotenuse, therefore b is greater than a, that means d and b cannot be correct, since a is the same in a and c, we can assume a=8, using Pythagorean Theorem. 8^2 + 2^2= b^2.

b^2 = 68

the square root of 68 can be simplified to 2 * square root of 17
