the perimeter of a rectangular garden is 36 yards the width is 4 yards shorter than the length. find the width and length of the garden

We just need to set up an equation to solve this.

Let's call X the length, and X-4 the width. So the perimeter of a rectangle is 2l+2w

So when we plug our variables in we get


36=2(x)+2(x-4)\\36=2x+2x-8\\44=4x\\x=11

So our length is 11, and our width is 7
