My little brother is in 6th grade we are a bit confused how to show the work with a picture for these problems.

I added a picture of problems that was similar that they could reference to although it didn’t make much sense.

So basically you take the problem like the first and you draw 1 box plus the 1/2 and than on the other side draw 2/4 and add thoughs together
