You can solve it by

X-10=2Y

Y+X=38

Then make x/y the subject in both equations

And solve using substitution.

X=38-Y-->1

X=2Y+10-->2

Multiply 1 by - 1 and label it 3

-X=-38+Y-->3

Then add 1+3

0=-28+3Y

3Y=28

Y=9.3

Substitute into 2 with Y=9.3

X=2*9.3+10

X=28.6≈29

You can round them to 1d.p to get the correct ans but these are the steps
