PLEASE HELP I DONT UNDERSTAND!! WORTH 50 POINTS!!

Jessica is selling books during the summer to earn money for college. She earns a commission on each sale but has to pay her own expenses.

After a month of driving from neighborhood to neighborhood and walking door-to-door, she figures out that her weekly earnings are approximately a linear function of the number of doors she knocks on.

She writes the equation of the function like this: E(x) = 10x - 30, where x is the number of doors she knocks on during the week and E(x) is her earnings for the week in dollars.

Which of the following are reasonable interpretations of the y - intercept of Jessica's function?

Answer:

Option B and C

Explanation:

Jessica is selling books during the summer to earn money for college.

Her weekly earning can be represented by E(x) = 10x - 30, where x is the number of doors she knocks on during the week to sell the books.

This expression reveals

(1) Since y-intercept is negative which shows the expenses of $30 per week

(2) If she does not knock on any door ( x=0 ) then E(x) = 10 Ă— 0 - 30 = (-30)

She will lose $30 from her pocket in the form of expenses per week.

Therefore, Options B and C are correct.

Option A and D incorrect because Jessica has to knock on the doors to earn the money.
