Joy organised a large wedding

Number of people at the wedding = x

1/3 of the guest chose beef

That is 1/3 of the number of guests chose beef

(1)/(3) *x chose beef

5/12 of the guest chose chicken

That is 5/12 of the number of guests chose chicken

(5)/(12) *x chose chicken

69 people chose vegetarian

Total number of people =people chose beef +people chose chicken + people chose vegetarian

x = (1)/(3)x + (5)/(12)x +69

Now we solve for x

We take common denominator LCD : 12, Multiply the whole equation by 12

12x = 4x + 5x + 828

now combine like terms

12x = 9x + 828

3x = 828 (divide both sides by 3)

x= 276

So 276 people were at the wedding
