For a homework question, Linda is asked to rewrite the expression (x3⋅x)2 ( x 3 ⋅ x ) 2 in the form xk. x k . Linda claims that the value of k k is 9 9 since (3⋅1)2=32=9. ( 3 ⋅ 1 ) 2 = 3 2 = 9 . Decide if Linda is correct. If Linda is correct, enter 9 below. If Linda is not correct, enter the correct value of k. k .

Answer:

k=8

Explanation:

Question says that given expression is
\left(x^3\cdot x\right)^2

Now we need to rewrite that expression in form of
x^k.

To do that we need to simplify given problem
\left(x^3\cdot x\right)^2.

x is same as
x^1

=\left(x^3\cdot x^1\right)^2

we can begin with inner parenthesis

=\left(x^(3+1)\right)^2

=\left(x^(4)\right)^2

=x^(4*2)

=x^8

Now compare that with
=x^k, we get:

k=8

Which is different value that Linda got.

Hence answer of the Linda is wrong.
