Set them equal to each other since x = x.

8x + 36 = 5x +60

-5x -5x

3x + 36 = 60

-36 -36

3x = 24

/3 /3

x = 8

Plug in to check

8(8) + 36 = 5(8) +60

64 + 36 = 40 + 60

100 = 100
