-x^2+y=1



We make y the subject to obtain,




y=x^2+1


We can easily graph this function, because we just have to transform the graph of
y=x^2 by shifting the intercept up to
1.



As for the straight line,
-x+y=2,


We find the intercepts as follows,



When
y=0,x=-2.


When
x=0,y=2.


We plot the points
(-2,0) and



(0,2).



We now draw the two graphs on the same graph sheet. The intersection of the two graphs gives the solution to be



x=-0.62 or
x=1.62
