4 hours and 15 minutes =4+15/60=4.25 hours

the average speed of the train = 250/4.25=58.82mph

Answer:

58(14)/(17)\text{ mph}

Explanation:

Given, the distance = 250 miles,

The time taken by rail to cover this distance = 4 hours 15 minutes

=4(15)/(60)\text{ hours}

=4(1)/(4)\text{ hours}

=(17)/(4)\text{ hours}

Since,

\text{Speed}=\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Time}}

Hence, the speed of the train

=(250)/(17/4)

=(1000)/(17)=58(14)/(17)\text{ mph}
