There are two ways that post-secondary (college-level education) remediation can impact a student, which are:

  1. It increases the student’s persistence to continue his or her education to the next year, or in other words, it would prevent them from dropping out early.
  2. It can increase the academic achievement of the student who receives them, although this particular impact does not apply to all remedial courses – the biggest observed impact so far occurs in students who participated in writing remedial classes.
