Many Eastern European nations were considered to be ruled by puppet regimes after WWII because their governments were controlled indirectly by the Soviet Union. Tell me if this helped :D

After the Anglo-Soviet Treaty of 1942, the United States, Britain, and the USSR defined how would the geopolitical landscape look like after World War 2. This led to the subsequent arrival to power of many regimes that were either supportive of the USSR or the Anglo powers. These regimes were located in eastern Europe and served as a "Buffer" in order to separate Western Europe from the USSR.
