I am for the provision of free transportation to ALL seniors of retirement age. I believe that there should be a law to help provide for the elderly who have spent their lives as citizens to better or economy, cultures, and families.
Once you reach a certain age, your body is more susceptible to health issues such as muscle strength decreasing, increased girth and body fat, vision deterioration, and reflex slowing just to name a few. These effects can make it difficult to safely and efficiently power a moving vehicle (especially at night). Retired senior citizens being on the road alone after a certain age can be a safety hazard to themselves and others.
Many elderly are finding it harder and harder to retire with the constant increase in the cost of living and have no choice but to continue to work past retirement age. These elderly citizens often need to commute to work by driving alone or walking miles to reach their destination (especially in smaller towns and rural areas).
Also, older age does not have to mean not remaining active in the community. Senior citizens often look to enrich and extend their lifespan by caring for young children, volunteering, socializing with friends and family, etc. Providing them with a safe means of transportation can create jobs in the fields of healthcare, transportation, engineering, technology, science, and human services just to name a few.
