Explanation:

It is given that:

A flower shop sold 3.5 times as many roses as lilies last week.

This means that if r is the number of roses sold.

and l is the number of lilies sold.

Then,

r=3.5 l

Now, we are asked to find the number of roses sold if the number of lilies sold are 2.

i.e. we are asked to find the value of r if l=2

Hence on putting l=2 in equation (1) we have:

r=3.5×2

i.e. r=7

This means that the number of roses sold when 2 lilies are sold= 7
