So you have common denominators already so you . should be set to start fully solving for x:

add 1/4 on both sides

5x=3x-4/4 4/4=1

subtract 3x on both sides

2x=1

divide by 2 on both sides.

x=1/2

hope this helps!

rememer that you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

5x-1/4=3x-5/4

minus 3x both sides

5x-3x-1/4=3x-3x-5/4

2x-1/4=0-5/4

2x-1/4=-5/4

add 1/4 to both sides

2x+1/4-1/4=1/4-5/4

2x+0=-4/4

2x=-1

divide both sides by 2

(2x)/2=-1/2

x(2/2)=-1/2

x(1)=-1/2

x=-1/2
