x · 4 + 8 = -36

How to solve this problem:

x · 4 +8 = -36

The first step to getting x alone on one side is subtracting 8 from both sides:

x · 4 = -36 - 8

x · 4 = -44

Next we divide each side by 4:

x = -44/4

x = -11

Now lets substitute -11 back into the original equation:

x · 4 + 8 = -36

-11 · 4 + 8 = -36
