a garden table and a bench cost $738 combined. The garden costs $38 more than the bench. What is the cost of the bench?

First you would have to subtract the total by 38, that is because the garden table costs $38 more than the bench

738 - 38 = 700

Divide 700 by 2 because you know that the garden table is going to be the same price of the bench if it didn't have a extra $38 and that we only have a garden table and a bench to buy

700/2 = 350

The bench cost $350

The bench would cost $350.

To do this, you would subtract $38 from the total, to get $700.

Then, because you are getting 2 things, divide $700 by 2, giving you the answer of $350.
