When a garter snake consumes a mouse, what happens to the organic matter that made up the mouse's body?

In a closed system, the total amount of matter remains the same, even though it often changes form.

When a snake consumes a mouse, for example, the matter that made up the mouse's body is used by the snake to generate chemical energy. Although the chemical reactions that generate this energy change the form of the matter, the total amount of this matter remains constant.
